Is Law Preview Worth It?

I attended the Law Preview session in Austin. I was just writing to let you know how I did the first semester. I attend the University of Houston Law Center, and I received all A's my first semester and am ranked #1 out of 266 students. Law Preview gave me the right mindset entering into law school, and I feel the class was a big part of my success. Not only did it help me succeed grades wise, but the class also gave me a sense of excitement to attend U of H, as there were 3 professors from the school who lectured at Law Preview, and I enjoyed all three!

—Shaun C., University of Houston Law Center, Class of 2013

I felt more prepared because I knew what to expect. I think the class made me feel more confident in my ability to meet the challenges of law school. I would definitely recommend the class to any incoming law student!

[Law Schools: All] [Graduation Year: All]

Having just finished my first semester at William & Mary School of Law, the only thing that I can think to say is THANK YOU!!! I just received my grades and was completely shocked (and thrilled) to see a GPA of 3.93 with 3 As and 1 A-! I took your Law Preview course last summer in Los Angeles and all of the basics that you emphasized were tremendously helpful . . . thanks for all of your help in preparing for my first semester of law school.

—Jen K., William & Mary Law School, Class of 2005

Because I wasn't a government major as an undergraduate, and didn't take any of the traditional 'pre-law' type classes I was a little intimidated about the first year of law school. Law Preview helped to ease my tension and helped me to feel confident going in, as I had been introduced to all the major topics we would address and had some foundational knowledge to build on. I think the best things Law Preview can give an incoming 1L are confidence and a foundation of knowledge on which to build a successful first year.

—Andrew E., William & Mary Law School, Class of 2010

It was nice to have some of the fundamental cases under my belt for each class. The rigor of the class also helped prepare me for the workload I faced when I arrived at law school.

—Anonymous, William & Mary Law School, Class of 2013

Law Preview not only helped demystify the law school experience, but it provided me with the practical skills necessary to achieve; skills such as conducting legal research, briefing cases, preparing outlines, and studying for exams. Although these are skills that every law school seeks to instill in their first-year students, Law Preview gave me a head start that allowed me to focus on my understanding of the substantive law when many of my peers were still struggling to develop their daily habits trough trial and error. Simply put, Law preview provides an excellent return on one's investment, especially for those students serious about distinguishing themselves from the pack.

—Paul W., William & Mary Law School, Class of 2014

Well your system worked. My first grades are a 3.8. While there is no class rank, they award a CALI award in each doctrinal class -- it represents the best exam for the class in that subject out of 352 students -- and I won that in Torts. What a great program!

—John C., William Mitchell College of Law, Class of 2006

Law Preview gave me a great preview of what to expect in law school. But more importantly, it gave me a plan. One thing I've noticed out of the top students in my class is that we all seem to have a plan of studying, breifing, outlining, etc. Law preview gave me that plan and told me what I needed to do if I wanted to succeed in law school. I had a hard time believing that it would take almost 12 hours a day, 7 days a week...but I really did spend that much time. If I did not take the Law Preview course, I would have started law school not knowing how to brief a case and not knowing how to formulate an exam answer. Bottom line...there is no way that I would be in the top 10% of my class if I hadn't taken Law Preview.

—Kristopher L., William Mitchell College of Law, Class of 2008

It helped me develop the reading and case-briefing skills that I needed before the rest of the people at my school. It is true that one should brief every single case. It really put me ahead of others in my class who had no idea of how to brief a case and how to read efficiently.

—Taylor T., William Mitchell College of Law, Class of 2009

Law Preview gave me the ultimate 'heads up' that I needed for law school. Don and all of the distinguished Professors tell you what nobody else will. During orientation and for several weeks after the semester began, it seemed everyone was running around without much of a clue of what was going on. Because of Law Preview, I already knew what I needed to do in order to focus solely on the important aspects of my courses. Law Preview pays off through every aspect of the first semester, and even beyond. I had my outlines complete by the time others were just learning how to get the most out of briefing a case. A small number of the students in my section even began to withdraw from classes during this time. Law Preview emphasizes methods that will help you stick through attrition. After the exams, many of the students were very worried about the grades they received. This was clearly the first time the others encountered receiving what they considered such low grades. Law Preview discusses this, so I was already prepared. . . . Law Preview clearly gives you the tools needed to cut through the confusion. They get down to brass tacks by clearly illustrating what we did and did not need to worry about.

—Daniel S., William Mitchell College of Law, Class of 2012

I know that the skills Law Preview taught me made my first semester of law school successful and manageable. As you are well aware, law school is a unique and stressful environment, a mystery to those who have not experienced it. Law Preview demystified it for me. As a result, I knew how much time I should spend studying and when, what I should focus on, and how I should balance my classwork with other obligations. I did not have to waste precious hours acquiring this knowledge by trial and error. Additionally, Law Preview's engaging professors introduced me to the substantive material I would encounter in my courses and made me excited about what I would learn in law school. Through its courses Law Preview gives incoming law students the tools they need to succeed in their first year and beyond.

—Frances K., William Mitchell College of Law, Class of 2013

The combination of the overviews from law professors preeminent in their fields and honest, practical insights into surviving the first year from recent, successful law school graduates cannot be beaten! . . . I would recommend this program to anyone beginning preparations for law school. When the first semester is underway and you have an immediate grasp of the case method, depth of understanding of your course material, and are effectively managing your time (and your life as a 1L), you'll be glad you took Law Preview. I'm glad I did.

—Jason O., Yale Law School, Class of 2003

I was out of school for several years before returning to law school. Law Preview helped me get back into the student mindset and helped prepare me for what to expect in the law school classroom.

—Anonymous, Yale Law School, Class of 2012

Law Preview was worth every penny. The lectures get you thinking about the important concepts, expose you to new terminology, and cover some of the cases you are likely to see in your 1L courses. It gave me a lot of confidence to have all this knowledge before classes even began.
